I searched the house for my workout clothes, grabbed my inhaler and phone, left my husband a note and ran out the door.

I ran the 20(+) minutes which was about 2 miles down the one of the main roads by my house. Can I just say OUCH!!! I guess because it's been a while since I did any sort of exercise my whole body itched and I mean my entire body. I've gone longer without exercising and never experienced this before but I guess I just need to get out there and keep going. Now granted I didn't run the entire 2 miles however I'm pretty proud of myself for getting out there and doing it.

My schedule calls for running again tomorrow but since I screwed this week up I'll see how my legs feel and go from there.

~Ciao!

Day 1....FAIL!

So instead of doing the whole 20 MINUTESS of running yesterday my husband took me out for lunch and I pigged out. In college, I hated it. I decided never to run again.

Fast forward 10 years.

I decided to try C25K (couch to 5K) and realized that I loved to run! I ran a few races and was training for the Rock and Roll Half Marathon last year when the fire started in the Dismal Swamp. Unfortunately that caused my asthma to kick in and halted all running. Once time passed there just wasn't time in my life to do any sort of training. With working full time, going to school full time, and raising A by myself 95% of the time, there was no way I could fit in running.

I miss it. I really do. So I'm going to train for the race. As of right now I will not register for it as money is tight however as time gets closer I will be doing that too!

Wish me luck!

Why do I have a diet/running blog?

I wasn't always fat.

Growing up I was average size, looking back I see that now. However thanks to my stepmother, my self image was in the trash. From a young age I was told just how fat I was, how my butt was too big, I ate too much, etc. It didn't help that I had a stepsister who was as skinny as a rail. This was the start of my weight issues.

My senior year of high school I stopped eating. I was kicked out of my house and I just didn't care. I would pick on a bagel during lunch so my friends thought I ate but really it was nothing. I ended up sick but I was successful in my goal of losing weight though I still thought I was fat. Seeing pictures now of how clothes started to hang on me, I can't believe no one noticed. Or maybe they did and didn't say anything I'll never know.

College years, I didn't take care of myself but I made it a point not to gain the freshman 15(20, 30). Again, I made myself sick and my father made me go to the doctor to figure out why. I knew why, I hardly ate, worked out all the time, smoked and drank too much.

Finally in 1998, I decided I needed to take care of my body. The best I could do at least back then while still having fun ;) that year I met my husband who loved me for who I was and who started to make me love me. I left NJ in 1999 and moved to VA with my husband (still boyfriend back then.) Being away from the stresses of my stepmother, I started my love for food. I loved to cook and bake. I loved trying restaurants with my husband. and slowly I started to gain weight.

In 2001 my husband proposed and then all of my self image issues came back. OMG, I'M FAT!!! I tried to lose weight on my own and just couldn't. I tried diet pills, nothing. Then I tried weight watchers. I couldn't believe it. It worked! For our wedding I was back down to 129 and happy. However once the honeymoon was over, the weight slowly came back and when we moved to the beach I realized just how bad it was again. By the time reality hit me, I was pregnant. Thankfully I only gained 16 lbs during the nine months and kept my weight steady until I quit breastfeeding. The problem with that was I didn't stop eating like I was breastfeeding so my weight increased even more. That was 2004

Fast Forward to 2009.
Over the last 1.5 years I started running which helped keep additional weight at bay but didn't really help me lose any. I decided I was just going to be comfortable being fat. Yeah right. That lasted less than a year. That's why I joined WW the second week of 2009.

I'm opening this back up...

This is my running blog now. My first 5K

I did it :) My first 5K!!
Well it's done I did my first official 5K. My time sucked but honestly I just wanted to finish and not finish last. LOL. My asthma was acting up because of alergies all week so I took more walk breaks then I wanted to but that will get better with time.
Here is my race report (reposted from www.ourlittleuniverse.com & www.marriedtoatrucker.com )
Overall it went pretty well. I woke up at 6 and got ready to go. I needed to meet my ex-coworkers at 7:30 and I wanted to get my number before that. Larry dropped me off and left to find a parking space while I ran and got my number. Found Larry and my co-workers and we just chit chatted until race time. I ended up running the competive with just my friend. We lined up around 8:40 and started at 8:47. I left my watch at home and I'm so mad because it was gun timed not chip timed and it took forever to get the the start line. I ended up losing my friend just 3 blocks in ( I counted blocks on Atlantic ave instead of miles ) I made it from 31st street to 18 street and then my asthma started. I knew it would because it has been bothering me all week. I walked down to the turn around at 8th street and started up the boardwalk. I ran on and off until the last 3/4 of a mile when I saw the little cheerleaders. They had to be about 7, all dressed up and had their pom poms. Then I just booked it to the finish. Right before the finishers chute I hear Annalisa yelling and waving. I crossed at 41 and change.... My goal was to finish and try to get under 45. With my asthma I thought I would be worse so I'm pretty pleased with myself. Larry forgot the camera in the car so I have just one pic from after the race I'll post in a minute in my album.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.runningmama.com/2007/10/i-did-it-my-first-5k.html' title='I did it... It was down right horrible actually. I realized 1/2 way thru that Annalisa's stroller had a flat tire so I was working triple time just to keep that upright :( Annalisa was off of school so when she woke up, I bundled both of us up and went to Mount Trashmore. It was a nice run but that stroller just about killed me. The scenery was beautiful, there were ducks all over and the sun was shining warming up the cold wind. I wish I remembered my camera. I'll have to do that next time.

I start week 4 on sunday. I'm debating on taking a spin class on saturday though. My pace was a little off my usualy but I did each interval completely. We woke up to late this morning to head out to the boardwalk so I ended up just running my neighborhood. It was ok. Definately not as good as running at the beach. I did the first of three laps with my dog and the poor thing was beat by the time we rounded back by the house. I handed him off to my husband and kept going. Day 2 will be either Tuesday or Wednesday :)

New Shoes!! Part 2!..... Week 3 is on hold

Well I attempted to do W3D2 yesterday in my new shoes and well honestly it sucked. My ankle was not very happy and I ended up stopping just after the first run. My ankle couldn't take it. So since I took off today I went back to the store and swapped them for another new pair :) These are Saucony Trigon 4.

They told me I was neutral but my ankle is week (which I knew) so I need a bit more support then the asics were giving me.

They also looked at my old Nike's. They had a stiff side support which was causing my foot to roll in too much. Hence the knee pain I had! I learned so much when I was there. Kinda made me wish I went in high school to be fitted in proper shoes. My ankle may not be so weak if I did.

I attempted to get on the treadmill this afternoon but failed miserably. I knew I was sick but I thought it was just a cold or alergies but apparently it wasn't. My entire body ached and it wasn't from exercise.

I finally gave in and made an appointment with my doctor. Turns out I'm severly dehydrated and have a bad ear infection as well as sinus infection. My tonsils are practically touching. Oh how fun :( So I'm told to rest for a few days which means Week 3 is put on hold until sunday. I guess I'm repeating it.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.runningmama.com/2007/03/new-shoes-part-2-week-3-is-on-hold.html' title='New Shoes!! Instead of the treadmill, Larry, Annalisa and I went down to the boardwalk and enjoyed the beautiful scenery while we ran. Larry actually did some roller blading and I ran with the jogging stroller. We did a 5 min walk with larry and the first jog interval then when I did the first walk he took off down the boardwalk. The 90 seconds of jog was fine. I felt great afterwards but when I had to do the 3 minute jog, HOLY COW! I so wanted to quit. Annalisa however was enjoying the speed so I kept chugging away. We got about a mile down the board walk when we turned around to do the 2nd set of the 90sec/90sec/3 min/3min. That's when I realized that it was a slight incline INTO the wind.

Honestly the only way I got thru this set was because of Shelley :) The fact that she was able to do this program with 2 kids in a stroller in 100+ weather. Hell I can do this with annalisa. She's such an inspiration to me :)

Once we finished and larry caught up to us we walked back to the car to head back home. I enjoyed this so much I hope to do this every sunday in good weather :)

W2D3

My iTunes FINALLY worked during this workout and it went great! He jokes about it, says he's not going to any 5K's to cheer me on etc. It made me a little sad but it also made me want to show him up.

Week 1 Day 1

Well I did it. I started the C25K program. C25K is short for "Couch-to-5K" and is a training plan to get you up to a level where you can run 5K (3 miles) after 9 weeks. They layout out each workout that you do. Here's some information about it. Couch-to-5K

Today was Week 1 Day and I did pretty well. My asthma is finally under control and I got the ok from my doctor to go for it :) I did learn that my Nike's are horrible shoes to run in. I'm going to try and stick it out for another week then buy a good pair of running shoes. I believe there is a running store around the tidewater area.

I hope this blog helps inspire more people out there as well as keep myself accountable :)

Post comments!!
